Are you a writer? What inspires you to write? As for me…well, yes, I read books, and I do sit in front of my PC screen to trawl the Internet and to let ideas spring forth from nowhere. All that is very useful, but…there is another tool in my toolkit that I use…travel. There’s no shortcut. There’s no reading or Internet trawling experience that can compensate for travel!
When you go to new and exciting places, you will meet many friendly people, taste terrific food and wine, view stunning scenery, experience remarkable modes of travel like sitting on an elephant, and occasionally you may take mild risks – like canoeing in crocodile infested waters, or walking to Mount Everest!
I can imagine you saying that you do need quiet time in a quiet room to write efficiently. You’re right! But you also need to get out and about. Sometimes, in the solitude of a country walk, links between seemingly unconnected facts or snippets of information suddenly combine to form a big idea. Eureka!! The seed of a story is born.
So go travel!
The thumnails shown below are examples of the thousands of photos of the places I have visited that gave me inspiration.
